Meet Philip, our #FRWSD Member of the Week!
Philip was four years old when he moved to New Jersey from Taiwan; from there, he bounced between Taiwan, San Diego, and L.A. [before moving back to San Diego in July 2021]. He recently graduated from college after studying sociology, and currently works full-time at a non-profit.
He remembers loving the required long runs they would make him do for P.E. class in middle school; this is where he cultivated his love for running and he decided to join the track and field team in his freshman year of school. Post-college, he continued running for both enjoyment and exercise. Upon moving back to San Diego, he wanted to meet other people who also enjoyed being active… and that’s how he found Front Runners & Walkers San Diego (FRWSD)!
His favorite part about being a member of FRWSD is how supportive, friendly and welcoming the other members are – and he loves getting breakfast with them after the morning meet-ups and getting to socialize with everyone. He also has fond memories of recently participating in the ’22 San Diego Half Marathon; this was also his first-ever race! Finishing in 1:33:56, he has now developed a whole new interest in races and now has a goal of running a full marathon!
His current favorite place to run is the peaceful serenity of Lake Miramar. Aside from running, he also loves surfing, lifting weights, and being in nature as much as possible.
One thing that not many people know about him: He used to dance in a competitive hip hop team performing all over the US for 3 years! As one of the newest members of FRWSD, he now welcomes other newbies and visitors, making them feel part of the FRWSD family. We are lucky to have him as a member!
