Ken Pahkim was recognized for his work with Front Runners & Walkers San Diego at the 40th Anniversary Celebration. Andy Chang, long time friend and member, presented this award.
Here’s the transcript:
This person hardly needs any introduction because even though he might not be a very big guy, he is a giant within the organization. Ken Pahkim joined Front Runners way back in 2001. Over the years he has held various leadership positions on the board and has served several years as a member of the Pride 5K committee. In recent years, he was instrumental in reviving the club’s newsletter and keeps it going out every single week. The history of the club and its events have been documented with Ken’s photos and these are on the website and have populated our social media pages. I’m sure we’ve all seen him running around our events getting candid photos or requesting you to strike a pose or two or 5. Ken is even brave enough to step in for Debbie as the stretching coach when she is gone and to show you how much he loves this organization, he still kept going even when someone yesterday yelled, “We want Debbie”.
In addition to his service to the club through leadership positions, he is also a great ambassador for the club. He is often the first person visitors to our club chat with through social media or email and when there is a new person, Ken goes out of his way to ensure they feel welcomed and have people to run or walk with. I have personally experienced this myself when I came to my first Front Runners Saturday morning. Furthermore, Ken leverages his relationships within our community for the benefit of club members. Whether it’s the discounts you get at local businesses (as summarized at the end of our newsletter) or a beautiful event space the club utilizes for well below market rates, we’ve all benefited from Ken’s willingness to seek out value for the club.
His dedication to our organization is second to none; Ken truly does show us all what it means to lead by example. It is my honor to present my friend and everyone’s unofficial 2nd mother, Ken Pahkim with the Front Runners “Leading by Example” award. Thank you for all your time and dedication.
Ken: I am flattered and honored to be recognized with this award. This organization was a beacon for me when I first moved to San Diego and was looking to meet people outside of the bar and club scene. I was encouraged by this group to take on my first race EVER – the AFC in 2002. I am glad to be part of a group that respects leading a healthy lifestyle and eating as complementary! Through the many years, I have met tremendous friends, received amazing support and encouragement during the most difficult times in my life and at many celebratory moments. There are many who still need the support of this FAMILY, and your welcome can make a difference I someone’s life. Just as it did for me. I share this award with this FAMILY of mine.
