A quick tour through Balboa Park and Hillcrest.
Course description
- East along El Prado through Balboa Park, over the Cabrillo bridge spanning the SR-163 canyon, past the Museum of Man. For the Aerospace Route, see below. For the University route, continue past the other Spanish Colonial-style buildings originally built for the 1915-16 Panama-California Exposition.
- At the large fountain, turn left, north on Park Boulevard.
- Go past the zoo, Roosevelt Intermediate School, and into Hillcrest.
- At University Avenue, turn left, heading west. Go past the restaurants, bars, and shops on University.
- At 6th Avenue, turn left, heading south, returning to Balboa Park, and back to Laurel Street.
Aerospace Route
- For the Aerospace route, once you pass the Museum of Man, turn right at the Alcazar Gardens. Go through the gardens, then through the parking lot.
- Go over the wooden walkway that spans the edge of Palm Canyon.
- Turn right at the organ pavilion, then veer right at the bathrooms, running along the edge of the cottages of the House of Pacific Relations.
- Go around the back of the Aerospace Museum, then across the parking lots to reach President's Way and Park Boulevard.
- Turn left at Park Boulevard, heading north, eventually rejoining the University route where it goes past the zoo.
